World Social Work Day: calling for a fair and just global economy
Social workers work in just about every country and community, dealing on a daily basis with hard stuff: homelessness, depression, abuse, addiction, poverty, broken families, illness, fear and recovery. Our many decades of experience have taught us that people thrive when they live in secure communities and environments; societies where a person’s dignity is honoured and they are able to contribute to their own and others’ wellbeing. Our experience also tells us that unreliable, unequal, fluctuating societies and weak communities undermine health and wellbeing and erode potential positive futures. This situation has unfolded in front of us all in Europe over the last five years.
