The Commonwealth Organisation for Social Work (COSW) has published its 2023/24 Activity Report, showcasing a year of impactful initiatives and steadfast commitment to social work advocacy across the Commonwealth.
The report highlights COSW’s active involvement in Commonwealth dialogues, including the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Samoa. Notable achievements include the promotion of the Commonwealth Charter for Young Carers, featuring a video collaboration with young individuals from 11 countries, and advancing the Kigali Declaration on Child Care and Protection Reform.
IFSW provided essential support to COSW throughout the year, offering platforms to promote events and initiatives. This collaboration underscores the importance of collective action in addressing challenges such as the chronically difficult working conditions faced by social workers.
Sylvia Daisy Romanus, COSW President, stated, “The partnership between COSW and IFSW reflects our shared commitment to advancing social work globally. Together, we have been able to amplify the voices of social workers and influence critical policies that foster sustainable shared futures. This report highlights what can be achieved when organisations unite around common goals.”
Joachim Mumba, IFSW President and COSW Board member, added, “COSW’s work this year demonstrates the vital role of social workers in promoting social work values across the Commonwealth. By engaging in high-level dialogues and fostering collaboration, COSW and IFSW together ensure that social work remains at the heart of efforts to create a fairer and more inclusive world.”
This year’s achievements affirm the crucial role social workers play in advancing prosperity, democracy, and peace within the Commonwealth. COSW continues to exemplify the power of advocacy, innovation, and cooperation in making a tangible difference in communities worldwide.
