Japanese federation of Social workers joint Workshop on Australian and Japanese Social Work Field Education in a Global Era
Regardless of local, national, regional, and global levels, the social work profession is facing rapid changes and ever increasing cross-border interdependence in the era of globalization. Recent trends include migration and diversity on an unprecedented scale, worldwide environmental problems such as climate change and related disasters, as well as other global threats such as the COVID-19 Pandemic, conflicts and wars, including resulting adverse economic effects.
These all impact on people’s lives and social work practice with them. Social work education must prepare future practitioners to be able to function professionally in such a highly globalized social context. With a focus on field education, this workshop is a joint project between the Japan College of Social Work and the University of New South Wales, to mutually learn from educational practice in each country from multiple perspectives. To achieve this, we rely on reports by various stakeholders involved in field education such as students, faculty members, and field instructors.
Based on their reports, we hope to search for similarities and differences, and find common ground for future collaboration in international social work education.
