Concept note:
Our societies are changing, and new challenges are emerging that require new or reimagined responses from social workers to set the proper measures and services that are in line with active inclusive approaches.
The world is changing and the access to social protection – a key dimension for quality employment and social participation is not accessible for all people in Europe. The European Parliament, European Commission and Council of Europe (INGO) are the relevant European institution to work with to peruse the inclusiveness and sustainability of social protection. IFSW Europe must ensure that we support social workers actions at the national level with a strong engagement with the European institutions.
It is our responsibility to prepare our young generation of social workers to become those who will have the vision and will transform this Social Pillar into a reality for the people and push forward reforms and policy measures at national level. It is now vital that IFSW Europe ensure that our young generation of social workers are ready to get engaged and become our spearhead of change.
The overall aim of this project is to support IFSW Europe member organisations in activating and engaging the young generation of social workers to continue to build on and strengthen our communities and our countries.
We need to ensure that we will activate the young generation of social workers to develop quality social services as an essential foundation for sustainable social and economic development of their communities and countries.
Duration:
The project has two years duration and will engage all countries in Europe (2020-2022)
Target group of the project:
IFSW member organisations and their members. The focus will be the new generation of social workers, with the following profile:
- Last year of university, or in the first 5 years of employment;
- Able to communicate in English;
- Connected with the IFSW member organisation.
Objectives
- Prepare a policy statement for the transfer of young social workers from education to employment. The project group will conduct the collection and analyses of good practice models or examples for different countries.
The planned result is to develop guidance for employers to support young when they enter the job.
These recommendations can be modified and adapted to the legislation of each country.
- Organise a flagship seminar on involvement of social workers in building social
Europe
We will organise a flagship seminar closed to our Delegates Meeting. IFSW Europe members will be invited to nominate young social workers that are active or not yet in their organisation to take part of the event.
Minimum 15 countries will be able to participate to this seminar. IFSW Global will be invited to add the IFSW vision and values to the concept of the seminar.

Who is taking part in the activity?
- IFSW Europe members will be invited to the nominate young social workers;
- An IFSW Global representative;
- IFSW Europe representatives to European Social Platform;
- Guests (to be decided);
- Members of the European Parliament and their staff;
- Organise a brunch with the staff of the Members of the European ParliamentThis objective is based on our cooperation with European Social Platform and their invitation to use their space for the brunch with the staff of the MEPs.
IFSW Europe members will be invited to the nominate young social workers to take part in this activity. An IFSW Global representative and IFSW Europe representatives to European Social Platform will be invited to participate to this event.
