The National Association of Social Workers of Uganda (NASWU) has celebrated a year of significant progress under the leadership of Michael Byamukama Ntanda. In 2023, the association saw a remarkable increase in its membership, with 380 new members joining from various sectors. NASWU’s involvement in key initiatives like the Ministry of Gender Labour and Social Development’s national strategy and the successful organisation of the World Social Work Day Conferences 2023 in four regions marked notable milestones.
NASWU’s commitment to professional development and international collaboration was evident in their empowering programs and partnerships with global institutions. The association’s efforts in standardising social work education and contributing to important national and international mental health and child protection forums have set a benchmark in the field.
Looking to the future, IFSW Africa President Noel Muridzo commended NASWU’s achievements and underscored the importance of their work. “NASWU’s efforts in addressing pressing social challenges and building professional resilience are exemplary. Their work not only strengthens the social work profession in Uganda but also sets an inspiring example for social workers across Africa,” said Muridzo. As 2024 begins, NASWU aims to build on this momentum, further enhancing Uganda’s social work landscape.
